US Democracy Online Exchange Charter

US Democracy Online Exchange is an online group for Democracies Online.

The purpose of US Democracy Online Exchange is to network those using the Internet to promote citizen engagement, better public decision-making and engagement, participatory journalism, voter participation, and improved online access to representative process at all levels.

US Democracy Online Exchange opened April 29, 2008 and will run on an ongoing basis.

Membership and Roles

Membership in US Democracy Online Exchange is open to all.

You are not currently a member of US Democracy Online Exchange.

The forum manager of US Democracy Online Exchange is Steven Clift.

Participation Guidelines

Participants in US Democracy Online Exchange agree to:

A focus on non-partisan efforts be they non-profit, government, or media-based.
As a forum for active practitioners (verse researchers) topics should be focused on real world engagement and not political philosophy.
The forum is open to all sides of the political spectrum active in non-partisan activities.
As a tactical exchange, the forum may not be used for ongoing advocacy. US-based e-advocacy or e-campaigning efforts may be introduced, but ongoing exchange will be more appropriate in our international E-Politics@ online community of practice.
contribute value publicly via forums and to not reply to other participants off-line with commercial solicitations (you must share value publicly so people come to you if you provide services)
follow the effective participation practices in the Participation Guide

All public and private forums hosted by Democracies Online seek to make a positive contribution to democracy, good governance, and citizen participation. Participants using a forum outside the scope of their stated purpose may have their access to a forum limited upon notification by a representative of Democracies Online. If you are aware of a violation of the spirit of this charter and these guidelines, please contact us.
